not so much as/less as

Hi, I´d like to know why "less as" is not correct in this sentence:

"I paid 1 pound for my seat, less as I thought it would cost." (correct is not so much as)

He has less money than I/me.
He has the least money.

to me LESS THAN seems most appropriate
