Not or don't, what to use?

Hi,

I've got a question.

Somewhere I wrote "why don't use FireFox"

A friend of my says I should use "not" instead of "don't" because "you" is missing (eg: why don't you use FireFox).
Is that true? Can't I use don't here? And why not?

I see, but why?

Is it because "don't" means "do not" and must be related to "you"? "Why do you not use FireFox"?

"Why do not use FireFox" still sounds right to me also.

Hi
Don't can be used without 'you' when giving an order ot instruction.
Don't use Firefox - you are telling someone NOT to use it.
'Why don't you' - begins a suggestion or piece of advice .

'why don't use Firefox' is not possible.
