Not only but also question?

Nowadays, when I look at art and designs, I not only can appreciate the aesthetic surface of an work of art , but deeper meaning beneath the aesthetic surface.

Eventhough I understand the basic usage of "not only but also ". I sometimes get confused when I'm writing longer sentences. I'm just trying to know whether this sentence structure is grammatically correct. Your reply is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
