Is it a protocol that not only* would always be followedby *but also or there are execptions to it?

And how do we use "as well as" , "in addition" and "too" after "not only"?

I should have said as well rather than as well as, but both as well and too can usually be placed at the end of the phrase.
"Not only does he speak German, but he speaks fluent French too (or as well)."
In addition is usually placed after the but.
