Not only *** but also ***

Hi.

I want to know the usage of this expression.

Can I use the expression not only *** but also*** in the negative sentence in the way below?:

He doesn't have not only kindness but also strength.

(He lacks not only kindness but also strength.)

Thank you so much in advance.

: He doesn't have not only kindness but also strength. No. We phrase that differently: Not only is he kind, but (he is) also strong.

I think using 'does not have' here is incorrect. Using 'lacks' is correct.
