Not only the living room was flooded, but the rest of the house also.(why there is no inversion after not only?)

An inversion would go better with an unrelated supplemental fact, like "Not only was the living room flooded, it was crawling with snakes." In speech the difference is apparent. It sounds like "Not only the LIVING room was flooded
