Not crazy...

1-I am not an idiot to believe that he is on our side.
2-I am not crazy to believe that he is on our side.

3-I am not an idiot believing that he is on our side.
4-I am not crazy believing that he is on our side.

In which case:
a- I do believe that he is on our side and that is not a stupid thing to believe
and in which case:
b-I do not believe that he is on our side. That would be a crazy think to believe.

Gratefully,
Navi.

Correct, but you would need a comma in 3 and 4: I am not an idiot, believing that he is on our side. I am not crazy, believing that he is on our side. It still sounds a bit ambiguous though.
