not as much as

Hi,
Would you say the preposition 'in' is needed here before 'boys'? If so, why is it needed? I don't seem to be able to come up with the reason?

Girls' voice boxes also grow bigger but not as much as in boys.

Hi,
I don't think you need 'in' in this sentence. However, you're refering to boys' voice boxes even if you don't need to use the term 'voice boxes' a second time, and you should put an apostrophe after 'boys'. Like this:

Girls' voice boxes also grow bigger but not as much as boys'.

I think this is the most natural way to put it.
