Not ~ any longer/ not ~ any more

The following conversation is from a book I use for my middle school student here in Korea.

The book says the answer of this question is 'd', and I wonder why 'c' cannot be in the blank.

A: Will you give this message to Mr. Smith, please?

B: Sorry, I can't. He _____________________________

a. doesn't any more work here.

b. doesn't any longer here work.

c. doesn't work any more here.

d. doesn't work here any longer.

Always many thanks

'He doesn't work here any more' would be fine - the adverbial phrase 'any more' comes after the word 'here', not before it. It's for this reason that [d] must be the correct answer.
