No, that sentence is not good. The two parts of your sentence say the same thing. Generally speaking, the second part of the sentence would say what you did instead.

You can use that construction, however:

Not allowed their own clothes, they wrapped themselves in bedsheets.
Not allowed to return home, Schallenberger stayed in an abandoned trailer nearby.
Not allowed in the press box with the white writers, he sat in the stands with his typewriter.

And with other verbs as well:

Not trusted to start, he was introduced for only the last 20 minutes.
