not all the way

Can you pull that book out of the bookshelf but not all the way. I want it to be on the shelf so I can shoot the cover with the other books in the background.

Is the description understandable?
Thanks

Just to make sure your understanding is consistent with mine. The book is dangling in the air. Am I right?

Hi,
Part of it may not be resting on the shelf, or it may just be more towards the front of the shelf than the other books.

Thanks Clive. Yes, that's what I wanted my reader to interpret. If you don't mind, does the word dangle describe the state accurately?

Hi,
No. 'Dangle' sounds like it can swing/move freely in the air. eg His arms were dangling at his sides. eg The light bulb dangled on an electric cord.

What would be a good adjective in this context then? Hanging as in hanging in the air?

Hi,
I suggest 'The book is partly off the shelf'.

One more attempt to understand the word dangle. Hopefully, I get it this time.

A blanket is dangling from the dresser. (Is it equal to partly off the top of the dresser?)

Hi,
'Dangling' to me suggests at least the possibility of some movement. I'd say 'hanging off the dresser'.
