Nostalgia vs nostalgic affection / Gain vs manage

Which would you say please?
1 I looked back on these days with nostagligic affection/nostalgia.
2 I eventually managed to control myself/gain control over myself

Could someone tell me if they understand this please?
3 He acted as if he didn't know he had money so that/that way next time he'd think I'd think he thought he didn't have money and I'd steal from him. Than he'd know what kind of person he was dealing with.
