However, I guess if we are not talking about the specific North Africa region that includes Morocco, Western Sahara, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan and Mauritania, we an use a small case letter as in the following example: "South of the Sahara, the annual fire season was underway in northern Africa in late fall 2005".
