Is it normal to use 'land' and 'going to' here?
"The plane is going to land at Changi on its way to Auckland."

Yes, it's perfectly normal.

The plane takes off. / The plane lands. (opposites)
The plane is going to take off. / The plane is going to land. (opposites)

You can also use 'call' for ships, planes and trains.

Cruise liners have 'ports of call' where they dock for a short time to allow passengers to take shore excursions.

(I prefer 'If it were...' in your question, but the others are also possible.)
