Norm of VS norm for

Emails have become the norm for efficient communication.

I definitely thought a preposition after 'norm' is of not 'for' when I translated it from my mother tongue.

If we put of instead of 'for', the meaning of the sentence is a little different, isn't it ?

Emails have become the norm for efficient communication.

Emails have become the norm of efficient communication.

.................... I got the point!!

For is....... who...

of is.......... something..... yeah...

its diference is very subtle!!

Although I know there are a great many uses of of, I'm habitually reminded the basic use of of as in the point of this ~~~
