Nor vs neither

Hi,

Is 'nor' or 'neither' the correct usage in the sentence below? thanks in advance.

Unlike the Shlites, who constitude the other major branch of Islam, the Sunnites do not await the Mahdi as a messenger from God, [nor/neither] do they endow him with divine qualities or immunity from failure in judgment.

Both are acceptable. "nor" is the more usual choice for most ordinary prose. "neither" is slightly more poetic.

Thanks, Jim.

Your answer is inline with ETS. They pick 'nor' over 'neither' in their GMAT exam.
