Nor did I or nor could I

Dear teacher,

Is this sentence right? If yes then what is the meaning of " nor did I" ?


I could not afford a bike, nor did I but myself a cycle.

1. Yes, but you misspelled "buy" because "but" is wrong in that sentence. It should have been as follows:

I could not afford a bike, nor did I buy myself a cycle.

2. "nor did I" isn't meaningful on its own. But with the sentence, it means "I didn't buy myself a cycle either". With "nor", you have to invert "the auxiliary "didn't" and the subject "I".
