None/Neither?

Neither/none of my uncles write/writes to us very often.

I think both "neither" and "none" are correct and "writes" is the right form. Am I correct?

Top answer

"None" occurs freely with either singular or plural agreement ("writes or write"). With "neither", singular agreement is usual ("writes"). Note that "neither" is usually restricted to coordinations consisting of two members.
