Non-standard comparison?

Hi,

Is this usage correct in this Wikipedia reference?

While metrifonate has been discontinued for use by the British /wiki/National_Health_Service, a Cochrane review found it equally effective in treating urinary schistosomiasis as the leading drug, praziquantel.

I would have said, "equally as effective."

Many thanks, - A.

Hi, I agree that you need to add 'as'. But I would also delete 'equally'. Clive

I would have said, "equally as effective."

Wouldn't that be redundant? as means equally in comparisons, doesn't it?

I would substitute as for equally, just because of personal preference. I don't care for equally in comparisons.

This is okay usage. You're not going to find grammatical errors in writing like this.

Thanks, guys.

So I guess the majority of you feel that Jane is equally beautiful as Hilda is an idiomatically acceptable substitute for Jane is as beautiful as Hilda.

It just hasn't been part of my experience.
