Non-deity oriented

Hi

An author of a book describes some magical ritual and says that during this ritual you can "call on/envision divine energy that is non-deity oriented, such as light".

Does it mean energy which has nothing to do with any deity?

Top answer

The author appears to use very lax language. "divine" means "relating to a ***" so his statement seems paradoxical because it contradicts the "non-deity oriented" part that follows. Whether "energy" can be non-deity oriented or *** oriented is yet another issue.

Hi

But literally it would mean an energy which has nothing to do with deity?

I know the author somewhat contradicts himself that's why it puzzled me.

Yes, it seems so. "devine" can also mean delightful so maybe that's what he meant. Still, choosing "devine" doesn't seem like a good idea there.
