Non defining relative clauses in spoken English

I have a friend, who knows how to solve it.

The sentence is not written and not spoken by native English speakers at all? Or it is possible but rare? What do you think? Thank you so much.

PS. my grammar book says non defining relative clauses are not used in spoken English, but I do not agree with it. What do you native English speakers think?
