non-defining clause

Egyptian scientists invented the first calendar which was not scientific.
In the sentence, is it needed to insert a comma before the adjective clause? Thanks in advance.

I can only assume you're talking about ancient Egyptians. I don't believe that ancient society had what we might call 'scientists' today. I expected to read "Egyptians invented ...", without the word "scientists".

Small point.
