The noun "noise" is a tricky little ******. Sometimes you use it as singular (Noise) for a lot of sounds in the event, like "The sound of battle and gunfire was annoying" and sometimes it's plural. "I could hear lots of different noises coming through the door - bangs, clatters, booms and quacks" Silence is an uncountable noun.

  • You need to memorize what words are countable (stones, trees, cats, dogs) and which aren't (advice, music, silence, happiness) For example, you can't "listen to musics" or "drink milks".

Hi Ruben. Welcome to the forums.

Silence is the state of the matter, so to speak. Noise is a sound which is erratic. Please be aware, the silence is uncountable so you can't say "silences". Noise can vary thus a noise is possible.

Silence descended on the town and darkness crept along the streets.
It's annoying when people make noise at such late hours.
