"No" vs "No other"

Emotion: smileEmotion: smileHi there, Can anyone please tell me the difference between "no" and "no other" in the following sentences? Are they both correct? In speaking, I have seen both are used.
  • No student in the class is as strong as Alice is.
  • No other student in the class is as strong as Alice is.

Strictly speaking the version with "other" is more logically correct, but in normal use this would not be noticed and they would be treated as meaning the same. Probably I would omit the word "is" at the end.
