No thanks

Can the comma be omitted in 'No, thanks' when it means that you're politely refusing something?

Mike: Would you like a beer?
Sam: No, thanks. <---can I omit comma here?

Yes. In conversation, a comma wouldn't be heard anyway. In writing, Mike wouldn't care whether you used a comma or not.
