No sooner than

ex) No sooner had he escaped from the car than it exploded

= He had no sooner escaped from the car than it exploded


Q1: Do we have to put 'no sooner' between 'had' and 'past participle(escaped)' ?

Q2: Is this grammatically correct?

ex) He had escaped from the car no sooner than it exploded (??)
