No sooner.. than

Which is correct? If both are okay, what is the difference between them?

And I wonder if it is possible that 'no sooner' comes after subject.

Because I think this structure is a inversion and I wonder what the original sentence is before it is made a inversion.

?No sooner had I come into contact with him than I determined to get to know him well.

?No sooner did I come into contact with him than I determined to get to know him well.

Both are correct. My impression is that the first one seems to be more commonly used.
