No park+ ing

Hi teachers,

I see signs like "No parking", "No smoking", and I could understand them as "No parking (cars)", "No smoking Emotion: smoking". They can stand without the word in brackets. Thanks.

I'd like to know if the following expressions are correct on their own without taking an object:

-No peeping instead of No peeping the TV

-No touching instead of No touching your face

-No sounding instead of No sounding a word

-No throwing instead of No throwing garbage

Regards,

TN

Yes. As long as you specify the object of the verb in those cases, you can use that grammatical pattern to forbid something. Moms sometimes warn their children, "No jumping on the furniture!"
