No one knows...

Hi teachers and natives

I've got a sentence completion question:

As with many long-term projects, no one knows ----.

option A - that the Apollo programme, starting from scratch, cost a hundred billion US dollars

option B - what the real costs will turn out to be

Which one of the above is correct?

According to the author, there is only one correct option. I think the correct option is B, but I'm not sure what makes the option A wrong in this context?

Thank you.

The correct option is B, because it is a logical conclusion to the first part of the sentence. Option A does not logically follow on from the first part of the statement.
