I don't know about your sentence. But,

"No one has ever solved such a difficult problem"

means the problem is so difficult that no one to this date has been able to solve it.

From the beginning of time until now, there has not existed any person who has solved a problem which is as difficult as this problem.
Or:
It is false that there exists a person who has at any time solved a problem as difficult as this one.
