"no more than" and the elliptical parts

Hello, I am a ESL student in Korea.

I wanna know about native speakers' opinions about this sentence.

Would you plz help me?

You guys are gifted with English language!

I hope you'd give a hand with this matter.

Sentence :

A whale is no more a fish than a horse is

Many people say that the meaningly omitted words of the sentence may be

"a fish"

,which means the sentence, even if "a fish" is not actually used, could be

A whale is no more a fish than a horse is (a fish)

I think, however, the elliptical parts should be more "no fish," than "a fish."

: A whale is no more a fish than a horse is (no fish)

What do do you think of this?

I have some following questions so that you could be more comfortable

dealing with this :

1. a fish or no fish?

2. By which way do you understand this sentence? (a,b,c,d) (counterparts A : B)

a. A whale is no fish : a horse is a fish

b. A whale is no fish : a horse is no fish

c. A whale is NO (fish : a horse is a fish)

d. A whale is NO (fish : a horse is no fish)

3. Another question

He is NOT taller than I am (tall / not tall)

(I think "tall" is right in this "NOT" sentence, contary to in the "NO" sentence above)

Thank you.

Thanks.

Appreciate it.

NoKalA whale is no more a fish than a horse is.

no more = not in any greater degree

A whale is not a fish in any greater degree than a horse is a fish.

We are supposed to realize, of course, that a horse is not a fish to any degree at all, so if a whale is not a fish to any greater degree than 'not at all', then a whale is not at all a fish.
