no / any + singular count noun

Is it correct to use "no" or "any" before a singular count noun or a singular count noun after "no" or "any"?

Have you noticed any alteration in the patient's behaviour?

I had no alternative but to report him to the police.

Hi Mr. Micawber... I thought that "any" takes the plural form of countable nouns (from reading other posts).

So should it say: Have you noticed any alterations in the patient's behaviour?

No, any can go with either, though it probably more often attracts the plural. However, when you write any alteration, I take it as the uncountable form.
