Next/that week's

Hi
Here is a situation where I am a little doubtful about the word 'next'.
Context
The writer refers to her past when she was child and helped her grandmother by reading out a story from a weekly.

"Every Wednesday the magazine would come and I would read the next episode of the story to her."

Next seems to suggest me the one going to come and here I think that week's is more appropriate.

You're correct - it can be confusing. The author should have used, in my opinion, " the latest episode ". In any case, that's what she meant and it's not totally incorrect to use next because what she was about to read was, indeed, the next installment.

Thank you, JohnParis. You are right.
Now I see it in a different way which makes me think she was right in saying so. She has used next with reference to the previous week.
