Next Tuesday

If on Friday afternoon someone suggests meeting "next Tuesday" would it mean the nearest Tuesday or the Tuesday of the week after?

Top answer

My expectation is the nearest Tuesday. If you suggest that meeting to me and mean otherewise, you'd better make it clear that you mean 'the Tuesday after next' or 'Tuesday week'.

When referring to the nearest Tuesday, I think 'this Tuesday' is always very clear.
