A: "Who's next?"
B: "I'm next."

What's part of speech for 'next'? Please explain.

I suspect that 'next' is a pronoun.

I just looked up my Longman Dictionary.

next (pronoun) the person or thing in a list, series etc that comes after the person or thing you are dealing with now:
e.g. What's next on the shopping list? (next = the next item; therefore a pronoun)
You're next. Ms. Williams. The doctor will be ready in a moment.

Such words can be a bit hard to classify. (Usually, when a word is hard to classify, I figure it's an adverb.)

My dictionary includes

adjective 1. the nearest in order of time. 2. the first or soonest encountered or considered (next Friday: ask the next person).

It doesn't include any definition as a pronoun at all, but i
