NEWSSTAND = BOOKSTORE?

Dear Teachers,

1. Is "newsstand" the same meaning as "bookstore"? and which word is more common?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd.

Top answer

Newstands usually specialize in newspapers and magazines, although they may have a few books. Newstands can be inside or outside (on street corners, for instance), and tend to be much smaller than most bookstores. Some very small newstands may be automated.

  • Someone can put money into a machine and take out a newspaper.
  • Both terms are appropriate, but not interchangeable.
