New words pocketed away from his first class

(ex) Tom taught his parents new French words that he pocketed away from his first French class.

Are "pocketed away" the right words? Thanks a lot.

It's unusual, at least to me, but it's not wrong. I don't think I've ever heard anybody use that expression in a conversation, though I imagine I've read it once or twice. CJ
