Hi,

Or perhaps 'the methods used by scholars who live in a particular colony'.

I think we need a bit more context to understand what your teacher was talking about when he/she used this phrase.

I wish I would have paid attention to this particular saying a bit more. He mainly used it when referring to what books we had read. I am just throwing a guess out myself, but maybe something along the lines of broadening our scholarship, i.e. what we learn?
