Hi! I am posting my most recent draft for my letter of motivation. This is going to a PhD program in immunology. I wrote it based on advice I got from people on this forum. Are there any questions I haven't answered? Any topics I should hit? Thanks!! My previous letter were deemed a bit too long or not specific enough. This one feels very short. Any topic you think I should address?
It is with great enthusiasm that I apply for the Ph.D. position you posted as part of XYZ Program. As soon as I read your project description, I knew you were the lab for me! Not only because of the engaging material, but also because of the implications this work will have in a clinical setting.
My master’s study in Biomedical Science has prepared me for this position. It involved a great deal of independent research, requiring initiative, self-motivation, and a deep understanding of scientific principles. As a Ph.D. student I look forward to building upon my knowledge of immunomodulatory signaling pathways to better define how the Type 1 immune response is regulated. I am particularly interested in the translational application of this research. A comprehensive description of the molecular mechanisms involved in T-cell skewing may be used to improve patient outcomes by identifying new targets for drug discovery or uncovering new uses of current pharmaceuticals.
I am convinced this program is the next logical step in my career. My expertise in immunology, combined with my professionalism and openness will enable me to make significant progress in the field of Immunology and Cytokine Signaling.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application and I look forward to hearing from you.
