New Jersey? New JerZey?

Jersey as a T shirt is pronounced as jur-zee.
But when Jersey as a shorthand for New Jersey, how do we pronounce it?

And how do we pronounce the state ?

Thanks

Hi,
After watching a lot of American TV, my impression is that many people from New Jersey will say what sounds like, 'I'm from Joyzee'. Perhaps an American will comment further.

That is often heard. I'm not sure, though, if it's said by those from the state itself or those from certain areas of neighboring New York City. Yankee's a little closer to that area and may be able to clarify.
