New Gay usage

- I was at this party and it was really gay.
Questioning revealed that 'gay' was being used to mean peculiar, unusual, queer.

Yup, as early as late 1976 when I was in elementary school. I think as soon as "gay" started primarily meaning "homosexual" it also started being used jocularly, perhaps especially by children, to mean "peculiar".

Indeedly-doodly. Schoolkids use "gay" to mean stupid, rubbish and the like.** I hate it, but there you go. Another one of their favourite words is "sad", and I have to say it's pretty sad if young people can't grow out of using th

An unusual party? That doesn't make much sense. Gay doesn't mean unusual; it means bad, stupid, or lame. If you say, "The party was gay" that means "it sucked".
