new environment

My family moved here when I was still a kid. Growing in a foreign country wasn't the easiest thing. Many times, we were mocked and you know, we weren't treated like everyone else, even after being here for many years. Things changed for the better when I graduated from high school and went to college. Perhaps it was the enviroment that almost everyone was new to the place and people tend to mingle with each other easily regardless of your background. That was when I got to know Jeff, Annie and John. We became very close in just a short period of time.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.
