IMO, both are commonly used, but #2 is emphatic.

I would regard the first as a common use. The second sounds a little pedantic.

I have looked up the word 'pedantic' in my dictionary and it says it means giving too much attention to formal rules or small details. However, I don't really get what you meant by the second version sounding a little 'pedantic'. Could you explain it to me, please?
