Negative verbs

Hi.
Dear all,
I've got a question about some sort of verbs that in addition of getting negative by 'do' and 'does' they would get negative by the use of 'not'.
Please tell me about these verbs cause recently I faced with this sentence in the song called 'Nothing' by the 'Script' which says ' I'm smiling but i'm dying, trying not to drag my feet' please tell which verb would get negative in this sentence by 'not'. I mean 'trying' would get negative or 'drag'.
I heard there's a few verbs that behave in the way i mentioned please tell me what they are.
Thanks a Zillion.
Yours sincerely!
