Nefarious activities
Hi
I heard nefarious activities in a film today. The policeman said something like this.
(during casual conversation)
All these nefarious activities must be stopped.
Would you as a native speaker find this odd ? I mean the use of such a formal word in casual conversation?

It does seem quite a high-register word, but in fact it is sometimes dropped into conversation, so I do not find that example odd.
