Vocabulary

need/wish

Hello!

Can you please tell me if wish and need are ok or is there a better expression? Should I write was or were here? Thanks

The need and wish of the Europeans to meet Istria was/were recognized fifteen years ago by XY who founded a real-estates agency «XYZ», which has its offices in Porec and Rovinj.

I wouldn't use that words "need and wish" in that sentence because the inclusion of those words makes the sentence look awkward. What am I going to use instead of those words? Probably the single word "desire" and the subsequent verb "was." The words "need and wish" don't fit contextually.
