To me, this sounds awkward. I think it's easier to write about the people (ie vegetarians) than than about the abstract belief ( ie i vegetarianism). Although vegetarians benefit from their diet, they may also require dietary supplements.

Another possibility:

Vegetarianism has some benefits but also some shortcomings.

You could also say 'deficiencies' instead of 'shortcomings'.
