Need your help. Thanks

Dear all,

The following sentence is from a stroy about exploration. I am not sure the true meaning of it. So I pararphrased it. Could you help me check it? Thnak you very much.

Original sentence: Twice John and Tom left some of their supplies so that they could move faster and later sent one of the men, William Wright, back for tehm.

John, Tom and Wright were exploring a place together. But Wright moved slowly so that he couldn't catch up with John and Tom. Therefore, they left their equipment in order to move quickly. That could help John and Tom find Wright back. This thing had happened twice.

Thank you for you help.
