Dear XXXX:

I am writing to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in the Master of Public Health Program beginning on August 1, 2011, as advertised on your department website. I am currently an epidemiologist in the National Epidemiology and Surveillance Department of XXXX and an Adjunct Professor in Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine, University of XXXX.

I have more than 5 years’ experience in teaching public health courses. In School of Public Health, XXXX University (Top 1 public health school in China in 2003), I taught one undergraduate course (Preventive Medicine) to medical students and nursing students, one graduate course to public health students, one continuing education course to community health physicians. I have gained deep understandings about how to organize and teach courses in North American universities by attending graduate epidemiology courses in University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Through my tutoring in University of XXXX, I have developed confidence in my ability of teaching in English. I believe my teaching experiences make me well qualified to meet the needs of XXXX’s MPH program.

My research interests are in environmental and occupational epidemiology, in particular, environment and child health. I have participated in several cohort studies on early environmental exposures and child development. In 2005, I started a small birth cohort study in XXXX, aiming to study the impact of low level exposure (lead, mercury, and others) on birth outcomes and neurodevelopment. During my postdoctoral training , I did epidemiological studies using data from the Mother and Child Study which is composed of mother than 100000 mothers and their children and the Generation X Study which is composed of 10000 mothers and children. Currently, I am advising on epidemiological issues to a child cohort study of environmental exposure and antisocial behavioral problems.
