Hi people! I got an internship (from school) at a research institute in Oakland US, but I don't know why do I still need to write a motivation letter.
Need comments on it please
Nijmegen, 14 July 2006
Dear Sir,
With this letter I would like to introduce my candidature as a third year student of the Life Sciences Bachelor Program at HAN University Nijmegen, Netherlands, who is seeking for a trainee position in research conducted at your laboratory in CHORI. Participation in the research project as an internship, which would start on November 2006 until June 2007, is one of the final year assessments at the HAN.
During my three years of study, I have acquired strong theoretical knowledge in biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology and microbiology, as well as basic practical skills involving a range of biochemical and molecular biological techniques. The HAN University strongly emphasizes teamwork, and I have had numerous occasions to work on a range of projects with different teams. These experiences taught me to listen to different opinions, develop my leadership skills and accommodate cultural differences.
At this moment I am working on my third year internship on optimization detection of Newcastle Disease Virus. Details on the project are explained in my CV (enclosed). This internship helps me building a research intuition and strongly improving my practical abilities. Therefore I believe that these experiences, together with subjects I mastered in school are going to be applicable and supporting to your research.
I am motivated and curious person who can easily adapt to any situation. I thrive on overcoming challenges. My colleagues, tutors and supervisor have found me as having good communication skills, eager to learn, supportive to others and helpful team player. I am excited by the opportunity to join a group of professional where I can learn recent new techniques, apply my skills, talents and enthusiasm.
Other reason to approach your laboratory is because I am looking forward to dedicate my knowledge in a medical-related research. After reading the overview of your research thoroughly, I find it magnificent to utilize the biological activities and characterizations of red cells membranes to understand the mechanism of diseases. Furthermore, I believe that being involved in a research institute as CHORI would build up a research intuition, setting up experiments (semi-) independently and surely be a great foundation for my future career.
Based on the CV and explanation above, I hope you could get enough information about my personality, knowledge and abilities. Thank you for your attention. I am looking forward to work and collaborate with you and your group.
Kind regards,

thanks in advance
